Introduction: Solve Systems in Two Variables

Systems of equations help us quantify and understand the relationship between different phenomena.  Systems are used to understand and describe physical, chemical, fiscal, and even economic principles. We will use all the of the skills we gained from solving and graphing linear equations to be able to solve and graph systems of equations. By the end of this section, you will be able to:
  • Solve systems of equations by graphing
  • Solve systems of equations by substitution
  • Solve systems of equations by addition
  • Identify inconsistent systems of equations containing two variables
  • Express the solution of a system of dependent equations containing two variables

The learning activities for this outcome include:

  • Read: Solutions for Systems of Linear Equations
  • Self-Check: Solutions for Systems of Linear Equations
  • Read: Solve Systems by Substitution
  • Self-Check: Solve Systems by Substitution
  • Read: Solve Systems by Elimination
  • Self-Check: Solve Systems by Elimination
